the golf course
Bellingham was a nine hole course from being established in 1893 until 1996. The original nine hole course is largely intact and is made up by the holes from the first to the sixth and from the sixteenth to the eighteenth with the new nine holes opened in 1996 running from the seventh to the fifteenth. Many of our younger members and visitors remark how the course now looks and plays as if the whole project was carried out at once.
This highly regarded course has a par of 70 for men and 71 for ladies. The course overlooks the village of Bellingham in the picturesque North Tyne Valley and features many stunning views of the surrounding Northumbrian countryside between Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Border.
It is true to say that there are no two holes alike on this course with many changes of direction and elevation, pretty streams, beautiful specimen trees and ravines to negotiate. At around 6,000 yards for gents and 5,200 yards for ladies, the course is not long by todays standards but the combination of testing par threes, long par fives and a memorable collection of par fours will maintain the challenge offered from the first tee shot until the final putt on the eighteenth green in full view of the clubhouse lounge and veranda.
the driving range
Bellingham has a six bay covered driving range where members and visitors may choose to warm up before their round. Balls are automatically dispensed by a machine on the range.
The refurbished lounge and bar offers wonderful views across the village and valley west towards Dunterley Fell. Bright and airy, the lounge is a perfect place to enjoy a post golf drink and meal with your playing partners. In the summer months the veranda is popular with golfers who are keen to watch the trials and tribulations of their fellow competitors while taking in the views and sunshine. The sunsets are particularly vivid.
Catering is usually available at weekends but is usually to be pre-ordered during the week. Please ring 01434 220530 to confirm your requirements.
